In the early hours of Saturday, 23 March, AEIOU’s Townsville centre was tragically destroyed by fire. While the Kirwan centre, our longstanding home for more than 15 years, may have been outdated and no longer fit for purpose, its destruction was nonetheless a heavy blow for AEIOU, our staff, and our families.
However in a heartening turn of events, Billy Lids Kindy extended a helping hand to our families in need, reaching out with an agreement that will allow us to use their building to continue our crucial service. Our team sprung into action immediately to help set up at our temporary new home to ensure families will be able to resume attendance starting Monday, 8 April.
While some families may need to adjust to part-time arrangements initially due to space constraints, this partnership marks a tremendous outcome for all involved. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Billy Lids Kindy team and community, as well as to our own team for their swift action and unwavering dedication during this challenging time.
Despite the setback, AEIOU remains committed to its expansion plans, with the new AEIOU Townsville centre in Idalia on track for completion mid-2024. We are now just four months away from the expected opening, with Hutchinson's Builders working diligently to potentially bring the completion date forward by up to three weeks.
The new centre represents a significant expansion for AEIOU, allowing us to offer over 10 new enrolment spaces, thereby increasing our capacity to support more children and families in need. We are immensely grateful for the overwhelming support we've received from the Townsville community and beyond. The generosity of individuals and businesses alike has been instrumental in helping us navigate this challenging period.
